Socials are activities that are informal and held in a social environment such as churches, neighborhoods, parks, etc.

17th December 2023, in Dundee, Scotland

Events include sandpaper and hardbat.  A social event with a competitive element.  Open to players of all standards, all ages and all nationalities.

The Ronnie Turnbull Quaich (Scottish Sandpaper) event is restricted to players who are permanently resident in Scotland; or are of Scottish birth or parentage. Players with a strong Scottish connection may be admitted, at the discretion of the Organisers.  The Open events are open to All, irrespective of age, gender or nationality.

Morning (0930). Scottish Sandpaper Championships 2023; and Scottish Open Sandpaper 2023 – qualifier for 2025 Ping Pong World Cup (venue not yet known).  Round robin groups are combined for both events, maximum 5 players, top 3 to main knock-out.  Any Scottish player who loses to a non-Scot in the main knock-out out will progress to a double-elimination knock-out for the Scottish Championships.  Sanwei sandpaper bats will be provided and must be used.

Afternoon (not before 1330). Scottish Open Hardbat 2023 – qualifier for 2025 Ping Pong World Cup (venue not yet known).  Round robin groups, maximum six players, top 3 to main knock-out.  Bats must be 100% wood blade with rubber coating (no sponge layer). Players may use their own bats, or basic hardbats will be available on loan or to buy on the day.

Prizes:

  • No cash prizes.
  • Winner of Scottish Sandpaper Championships will be awarded the Ronnie Turnbull Quaich and a qualifying place at the 2025 Ping Pong World Cup.  Winner and Runner up will receive mementos.
  • Winner of Scottish Open Hardbat will be awarded the Dave Goddard Classic Cup and a qualifying place at the 2025 Ping Pong World Cup.  Winner and Runner up will receive mementos.
  • Winner of Scottish Open Sandpaper will be awarded a qualifying place at the 2025 Ping Pong World Cup.  Winner and Runner up will receive mementos.
  • Qualifying places at the 2025 Ping Pong World Cup may be awarded to top-placed Senior players (55 years+ as of 31st December 2025), Women, and Juniors (born 2004 or later) at the Organisers’ discretion.
